How to Keep Your Water Bills Down?
To help you save money and keep your water bills down Rightio have put together seven water-saving ideas that you can incorporate in your daily life.
If you have a water meter rising water bills are a common issue as the weather gets warmer and the children come home from university. But this year households across the UK have had a third reason to worry about the cost of water - the Coronavirus lockdown.
With entire families self-isolating together, it is not a surprise that we use more water to cook, clean, drink and shower. A long bath to relieve the stress is a fine idea, but when every family member takes one, you're bound to see the water bills rising.
To help you save money and keep your water bills down during the lockdown and throughout the year, as well as help planet Earth, we have put together seven water-saving ideas that you can incorporate in your daily life.
How to keep your water bills down
1. Start with shorter showers
Did you know that taking a shower for longer than 15 minutes uses the same amount of water as filling a bath? We are not saying to shower less but rather to be more aware of the time you spend enjoying a refreshing splash. A 5-10 minute shower on some days is just as good, and will help you save money.
2. Only throw toilet paper in the toilet
As much as you might be tempted to dispose of failed cooking experiments and wet wipes in the toilet, using it as a bin will waste water every time you flush, plus it can cost you even more, if your pipes get blocked and you need to call a plumber.
3. Wait and do a full load of washing
Since you're not going out as much during the Coronavirus pandemic, you could wait a bit longer for your washing to pile up, until you have a full load for your washing machine.
4. If you have a dishwasher - use it
Of course, you shouldn't waste a whole wash worth of water, if you're only washing two plates. But if you're at home with the whole family, fully loading the dishwasher will actually save you money on your water bill, compared to washing all the plates and cutlery under the running sink water.
5. Replace leaking taps
A dripping tap can cost you a lot over time. If you notice that your taps have started leaking you should call a plumber to fix them as soon as possible, if you want to keep your water bill down.
6. Think about that tea
We all love a cuppa (or two, or three) a day but it could be costing you a lot more than you suspect. If you overfill the kettle, you'll not only use more water than you need, but you'll also spend more on electricity, as you'll need more energy for the water to boil.
7. Request your water-saving kit
Depending where in the UK you live, and on your water supplier, you might be able to request a water-saving kit, which will help you reduce your water usage and bills, and benefit the environment at the same time.
